In 1878, Piet van Reisen founded the company P. van Reisen & Zonen on the Loosterweg in Voorhout. The company was located on a canal so that the bulbs could be easily transported.
Initially, the company started growing bulbs on a small plot of land. Over time, the company grew rapidly, and Piet’s son, also named Piet, took over the business in the early 1900s. Under his leadership, the company expanded its operations and introduced new technologies to improve production and quality.
During the 20th century, the company became one of the leading bulb companies in the Netherlands, with a reputation for high-quality bulbs and innovative preparation techniques. Today, the company is still family-owned and is run by the fourth and fifth generations of the van Reisen family.

We take sustainability seriously. In the last 5 years we have taken steps to reduce our carbon footprint. We’ve installed 660 solar panels which produce 60% of the energy needs of our firm. The remaining energy needed is purchased from sustainable sources, ensuring that all of our energy comes from clean and renewable sources.
We have also made steps to reduce our overall energy consumption. We’ve made changes to our lighting systems, switching to LED lights which use less energy and last longer than traditional lights. We make use of high insulated freezers with modern efficient coolers and changed to frequently regulated ventilators, which use less power than normal ventilators.
Our fields are irrigated with a closed irrigation system, which uses significantly less water than traditional sprinklers. By using this system, we’re able to conserve water and reduce the amount of runoff, which helps to prevent pollution in our local waterways. This closed irrigation system is also designed to be more efficient, providing targeted water delivery to specific areas of our property. This means that we’re able to use less water while still maintaining a healthy product.
We not only care about the environment, but also about our employees. We believe in providing stable and long-term employment opportunities to our team, which is why we employ mostly permanent employees instead of seasonal workers. By doing so we can build a dedicated and experienced workforce. This helps to ensure consistent quality in our work .
We’re proud to say that many of our team members have been with us for years, and we’re grateful for their hard work and dedication. At P. van Reisen, we strive to create a positive and sustainable environment, and that includes our valued employees.
